Product Badges on your Dispensary Menu

BudSense Badges Feature Spotlight for Cannabis Dispensary Solutions

Our team uses ‘Feature Spotlight’ to showcase specific BudSense features that can be used to improve customer experience, communicate product information, and create efficiencies in your operation.

This edition of ‘Feature Spotlight’ highlights Badges. Badges are used to visually emphasize product characteristics.

Display Badges on your Cannabis Menus

Badges are a great way to visually emphasize important product information without cluttering your digital, web, or print menus. Think of badges as a thumbnail photo that appears beside a product name, used to signify a specific product detail, such as effect or flavour.

Badges help to communicate product information in a digestible way that won’t overwhelm customers. Customers will become more curious about a product, making it easier to engage with them and add to their cart.

Add a badge to any product you’d like- see below. As they say, a picture says a thousand words!

Preloaded Badges

Not interested in creating custom badges? No problem! We took the liberty to preload four groups of badges into BudSense already. These badge groups include cannabinoids, emojis, ratios and terpenes.

Cannabinoid Badges include linalool, camphene, limonene, mycrene, caryophyllene, eucalyptol and humulene.

Creating Custom Badges

You don't need to be a photoshop guru to build custom badges. To achieve the look and feel you have in mind, it can be as simple as saving a google image to creating an image yourself on Canva or Figma.

Badges can be a great way to communicate your brand vision! So if you have access to a marketing team or a designer, this is an excellent opportunity to utilize them.

If you aren't working with a designer or marketing team and would like help finding one, let us know- we would be happy to help.

Adding Custom Badges to BudSense

Once you have selected or created your badges, it’s time to upload and use them on BudSense

Go to the company ‘Company Tab’ in your BudSense account and click on the ‘Badges’ column. Now, click ‘Add New Badge’ and upload your image. Voila! Before you know it, you will have a multitude of badges to choose from!

Assigning Badges to Products

Now that you know how to add badges to your BudSense account, let's talk about assigning them to products! But first, if you have a specific product in mind that you'd like to assign a badge, make a mental note of what menu and section it resides in.

Go to the 'Menu Tab' in your BudSense account and click on a menu to edit. Next, you will click on 'Edit Section' and scroll down to the product section. From there, find the product you'd like to add a badge and click on 'Add Badges.' Then select the desired badge from your badge bank!

To see what the badge looks like on your menu, go back to the 'Edit Product Menu' page and click on 'Live View.'

If you’re plagued by perfectionism like us, please note- Once you start assigning badges to products on your menus, you might want to edit and upload them again; This can sometimes be an iterative process to achieve the look and feel you have in mind. But don't worry, it'll all be worth it in the end because you're customers and budtenders will love you for it!

Badge Examples

To get the creative juices flowing, here are some examples of how you can use badges. Such as to emphasize sensations, effects, flavours, terpenes, THC content, price, pretty much anything you want to communicate to your customers!

Sensation Indicator Badges

One of our favourite ways we’ve seen customers utilize badges is to communicate a particular sensation a product provides. For example, you could assign a ‘Brain Badge’ to a product that improves concentration. Similarly, you could assign a ‘Moon Badge’ to a product that promotes sleep or a ‘Sun Badge’ to products with an energizing effect. We suggest selecting symbols that customers intuitively understand.

Flavor Indicator Badges

You can also use badges to identify flavours of gummies! Sometimes when we rely on text-only menus, customers seem to get bored, and new products or cart fillers might not jump off the menu like they could. That is why we love the idea of adding a flavour badge to edibles! For example, next to your ‘Strawberry Lemonade Soft Chew,’ assign a strawberry and lemon badge.

Simplify Terpene Communication

We all know that terpene profiles are valuable information, but can quickly become confusing and overwhelming for most customers.

Whenever we talk strategy with our clients, the challenge of communicating terpene profiles effectively comes up more often than not. Many of our clients want to start discussing and displaying terpenes with their customers, but they often don’t know where to begin.

As always, our solution is merely a suggestion. But we love the idea of utilizing the badge feature to communicate the most prominent terpene. A popular example of this would be assigning a lemon badge to signal that ‘Limonene’ is the most prominent terpene profile. Utilizing the badge feature to highlight the most prominent terpene is a great way to open dialogue with customers in-store and signify what they are looking for!
